Atal Tunnel

This tunnel is named Atal Tunnel, in the memory of former Prime Minister Of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji is World’s Longest high-altitude tunnel, situated at the height of over 3000metres above sea level in Himachal Pradesh.
It is constructed by Border Road Organization (BRO) on Manali-Leh Highway and took almost 10 years to complete.
The 10.5-metre wide single tube bi-lane tunnel with inbuilt fireproof emergency egress makes the tunnel even safer. This tunnel is 8.8km long, at such a high altitude is itself an amazing example of engineering.
Atal tunnel would cost 32000 crores that will reduce the time of the journey of 474kms from 8 hrs to 5 hrs by reducing 46 km.

How Atal is beneficial?

Atal Tunnel, one of the most ambitious projects in India is about to be inaugurated by Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi Ji confirming this tunnel will bring many benefits in terms of tourism and for Army.
The all-weather connectivity of this tunnel is very crucial for India strategically and backdrops the ongoing tensions of India-china at the line of actual control (LAC) will help local of Lahaul valley and Leh to connect with Manali for there necessities in winters.
Apart from this, the tunnel will connect to Lahaul valley through the year and shorten the road by 46 km.
It’s a huge success of Indian Government, constructing this tunnel, they are able to reduce the time by 2-3 hrs that make a huge difference for tourism and army strategy.

What does It bring to Tourism?

After the opening of Atal Tunnel, Vistadome busses will be going to run through a tunnel of 8.8kms at the altitude of 3000 metres above sea level.
Vistadome buses will have a glass rooftop so that tourist can have iconic views of mountains and surroundings.

My Review

Well, Government has done a great achievement constructing Atal Tunnel and completing this project with a concern of increasing tension at Line of actual control, increasing tourism and all-weather support to locals of Lahaul valley.
